Building Safer CommunitiesThe Northern Territory Government has released its five year framework for building safer communities. Building Safer Communities - A Framework for Crime Prevention and Community Safety - 2004-2009 outlines the Government's commitment to continue working with Territorians to make the NT a safer and more secure place to live and work. Building Safer Communities provides an online guide for information and tips on how to get involved in crime prevention and community safety. As part of the Building Safer Communities initiative the Office of Crime Prevention, in partnership with the Northern Territory Police, hosts an annual Crime Prevention Forum. In 2005 the Darwin Regional Crime Prevention Council also co-sponsored the event. Crime Prevention Forums bring together representatives from Regional and Indigenous Crime Prevention Councils, local crime prevention committees, local government and community organisations. These Forums contribute to the ongoing coordination and management of crime prevention and community safety in the Northern Territory. They allow Government to hear directly of the issues of concern and interest at local and regional levels while also providing information about programs and services to community members.
