Home > Students StudentsThere are presently 14 Magistrates appointed in the Northern Territory . The Chief Magistrate and eight Magistrates are based in Darwin, four Magistrates in Alice Springs and one in Katherine. They travel extensively to many other centres and communities to hold court sittings. Magistrates are appointed by the Attorney General from suitable candidates. To be eligible candidates must hold sufficient legal qualifications and have at least five years experience as a lawyer. Law students can find links to legislation and court decisions.
