Notice to all NT Justices of the Peace and Commissioner for Oaths
In early March 2011 a letter was mailed to all Justices of the Peace and Commissioners for Oaths in the NT, enclosing a Fact Sheet on the new Oaths, Affidavits and Declarations Act, and advising that the new legislation and an updated Handbook (for use from 1 March 2011) were available at the following website: www.nt.gov.au/justice/jop.shtml
· Please note: the updated JP Handbook and “Notes for the Guidance of Commissioners for Oaths” are yet to be uploaded.

'ENOUGH IS ENOUGH' CAMPAIGN
PUBLIC FORUMS REGARDING THE PROPOSED NORTHERN TERRITORY ALCOHOL REFORMS
The Territory Government will hold public forums in all major centres throughout the Territory to listen to community views relating to the Government’s proposed alcohol reforms, which include:
- Banning problem drinkers from purchasing takeaway alcohol
- Introducing mandatory rehabilitation treatment for problem drinkers
- Rolling out a new Territory wide Banned Drinker Register/ ID system in all take away liquor outlets
- Replacing the existing Alcohol Court with Substance Misuse and Referral for Treatment (SMART) Court
- Expanding and enhancing rehabilitation and treatment options for problem drinkers.

NOTICE TO ALL SECURITY OFFICER AND CROWD CONTROLLER LICENSEES
Effective 1 July 2009 there are new approved competency standards and training in respect of the categories of licence of Crowd Controller and/or Security Officer.
The 16 units (click here to view) are offered as part of CPP07 – Property Services Training Package. A Statement of Attainment issued under the former training package PRS03 will still be accepted, provided that it complies with the previous NT competency requirements.
All current licence holders that have not yet completed the training under the PRS03 or CPP07 Training Packages will be required to upgrade their qualifications to be eligible for licence renewal.
Please note that a Statement of Attainment of any higher level of qualification (i.e. Certificate III in Security Operations), which does not include the prescribed units of competency, will not be accepted. Therefore, current licence holders who have completed a Certificate III in Security Operations without meeting the prescribed units of competency must comply.

DRINKING IN PUBLIC PLACES IN THE NORTHERN TERRITORY
Drinking is prohibited in most public places in townships across the Northern Territory. There are public drinking restrictions in Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Mataranka, Nhulunbuy and parts of Darwin.

If you are planning to have alcohol at special event you will need to contact us about applying for a Special Events Permit.

PURCHASE OF ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO PRODUCTS BY MINORS
Licensing, Regulation and Alcohol Strategy (LRAS) have had recent indications that a few retail outlets with liquor and tobacco licences may be supplying alcohol and cigarettes to minors. LRAS will work with you to help address this issue and to take action in relation to these licensees.
