Responsible Service of Alcohol – What you need to know

If you work in the service of alcohol in the Northern Territory you are required to attain a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate.  To assist industry with the initial cost training the Northern Territory Government is providing, for a limited time, a training subsidy of $40 per person.

Make sure you enrol in a course quickly to gain a place.

Training Start Dates

  • From 1 May 2009 onwards, all new employees have one month from their start date to attain an RSA certificate.
  • Existing employees have until 1 August 2009 to complete the training.
  • People with interstate certificates are accepted.

Training Subsidy Payment

To assist industry with the initial cost of training the Northern Territory Government is providing, for a limited time, a $40 payment for each person towards the cost of the standard course fee.  
Conditions are as follows:

  • you need to enrol with a Northern Territory training organisation, please see link; should we link
  • you need to complete the nationally accredited RSA unit of competency that includes information about Northern Territory licensing laws and regulations;
  • you need to be currently employed at a licensed premises;
  • you need to enrol in an RSA course by 30 June 2009, but you have until August 2009 to complete the course;
  • you or your employer will be charged the gap between the subsidy and the course fee;
  • the subsidy payment of $40 per person will be reimbursed to the training organisation; and
  • the subsidy agreements will run from 27 April to 14 August 2009.
