Business Name Registration and Renewal

 

New national scheme for business name registration from 28 May 2012

On 28 May 2012, a new national scheme for the registration of business names commenced.

The new scheme and national business names register is administered by ASIC and replaces all state and territory business names registers. As well as a joint online registration process for Australian Business Numbers (ABNs) and business names, including trade mark searching, the system delivers online business information services and improves transactions between government and business.

 

What will you need to do?

Existing NT business name holders were automatically transferred to the new national register on 28 May 2012.

From 28 May 2012, any new NT business must register for a business name through ASIC.
