Licensing - Motor Vehicle Dealers

A person who carries on the business of a “Motor Vehicle Dealer” in the Northern Territory must hold a current Northern Territory Motor Vehicle Dealer’s licence.

Operating as a Motor Vehicle Dealer without a licence may incur a maximum fine of $20,000. Further penalties may also apply to include forfeiture of vehicles and any sale proceeds.

Companies

Cheques should be made out to the “Receiver of Territory Monies” or “RTM”

Individuals/Partnerships

Cheques should be made out to the “Receiver of Territory Monies” or “RTM”

Current/Existing Motor Vehicle Dealers

All cheques must be made out to the “Receiver of Territory Monies” or “RTM”.

Managers

When renewing a manager’s certificate, the manager is NOT required to complete a criminal history check or send in new references for a renewal.
