Closing the net on problem drinkers
Alcohol abuse causes crime. 60% of assaults in the Territory are alcohol-related.1
The Territory Government’s ‘Enough is Enough’ alcohol reforms are turning problem drinkers ‘off tap’, with more than 2000 on the Banned Drinker Register.2
New extra measures are now proposed to close the net on problem drinkers causing anti-social behaviour in our parks and streets.
Under these proposed measures:
- Police can place people who repeatedly drink in public and cause a nuisance on the Banned Drinker Register
- Problem drinkers can be placed on income management to force them into treatment
