Australian Consumer Law

National Consumer Law commenced 1 January 2011, please visit the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) website for further information. 

For the first time, Australian consumers have the same protections and expectations about business conduct wherever they are in Australia. Similarly, businesses have the same obligations and responsibilities wherever they operate in Australia.

The Australian Consumer Law will be administered and enforced jointly by the ACCC and the State and Territory consumer protection agencies, with the involvement of ASIC on relevant financial matters.
