NORTHERN TERRITORY Anti-Discrimination Commission Office of the Information Commission Northern Territory Victims of Crime NT (previously VOCAL) First Floor, La Grande Building CRIME PREVENTION AGENCIES AND PROGRAMS Australia National Crime Prevention Program This Program was launched in 1997 by the Prime Minister. In the 1999-2000 Budget, the Australian Government committed a further $21 million over four years to the program, which aims to identify and promote innovative ways of reducing and preventing crime and the fear of crime. The program includes research and practical initiatives including, national pilot projects, local prevention activities, communication and training initiatives. Australian Institute of Criminology The Institute is the national focus for the study of crime and criminal justice in Australia and for the dissemination of criminal justice information. The Institute draws on information supplied to it by a wide variety of sources and its policy advice is objective and independent. Australia and New Zealand Crime Prevention Ministerial Forum (National Anti-Crime Strategy) New South Wales The Crime Prevention Division is the New South Wales Government's key agency for advice on crime prevention policy and programs in New South Wales and considers a broad range of social and crime prevention issues, such as health, education, housing and employment. Victoria Crime Prevention Victoria (CPV) is responsible for the development and implementation of the crime prevention and anti-violence strategy and the provision of information and support on best practice models of crime prevention. Queensland Crime Prevention Queensland (CPQ) is a small unit within the Community Engagement Division, Department of the Premier and Cabinet that is responsible for driving the implementation of the Queensland Government’s Crime Prevention Strategy. South Australia Crime Prevention Unit, which was set up in 1989 as part of the South Australian Attorney-General's Department works to prevent or reduce crime by involving a range of other partners in crime prevention work. Western Australia SAFER W.A. is a partnership between the key areas of the public and private sectors, the WA Government, local government, the Police, community groups and every Western Australian. It requires partners to accept their responsibility to work together to build a safer and more secure environment, as well as to harness every possible resource to provide the solutions which will significantly reduce crime. Tasmania Crime Prevention and Community Safety Council, which consists of 11 members representing government and the community, was set up to create a safer and more secure Tasmania by developing partnerships between community and government to focus on crime prevention.
