About Us

The Northern Territory Anti-Discrimination Commission (ADC) was established in 1993 to administer the
Anti-Discrimination Act

The ADC is headed up by the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner, Eddie Cubillo. Eddie is an independent statutory officer who has various functions under the Act including the promotion of equality of opportunity in the NT; complaint handling and conduct of hearings; and provision of advice to the community and the government about the operation of the Act.

The ADC fulfils the Commissioner's functions in two main ways, by handling complaints made under the Act and through the provision of public education and training.

Complaint Handling

Our Conciliators answer queries in relation to the operation of the Act, and once a complaint has been lodged, are responsible for the early stages of the complaint handling process.  They act as Delegates of the Commissioner, make decisions under the Act, and assist the parties to resolve complaints through conciliation prior to hearing.  The ADC does not act nor advocate for either party to a complaint.  If a complaint cannot be resolved the Conciliator will either dismiss the complaint or refer it to public hearing before the Commissioner.  For further details about how to make a complaint under the Act

Public Education and Training

The ADC offers training and education to individuals, businesses, schools, the public sector and other organisations to increase understanding of the operation of the Act and the principles that underpin it.  One of the main aims of our public education and training is to inform people of their rights and responsibilities under the Act, so as to avoid complaints arising in the first place.
