Northern Territory Correctional Services (NTCS) are always looking for men and women with integrity and maturity to work as prison officers at their correctional centres in Alice Springs and Darwin.

Prison officers work as a team responsible for the safe, secure and humane management of prisoners within and external to correctional centres. The job requires interaction with prisoners, but also involves guiding and assisting prisoners in rehabilitation programs. It is an interesting and challenging job that can lead to a secure and rewarding career.

You will need to be fit and have plenty of common sense, as well as good communication and organisational skills. Shift work is required, and you will need to have an awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. You must also have a current NT driver’s licence and be prepared to undergo a criminal history check.

The NT Government recruitment website lists vacancies and promotional opportunities for experienced prison officers, but the NTCS also conducts regular recruitment drives in which they assess your suitability for inclusion on the Prison Officer in Training (POIT) Register. Inclusion on the Register is not an offer of employment, but the NTCS uses the Register to make placement selections when they identify a need for additional staff.
