Stuart Highway/Zimin Drive intersection upgrade
Overview
The intersection of Stuart Highway/Zimin Road is well used by locals, light/heavy industry and passing highway traffic.
Zimin Drive services rural residents, small commercial businesses and tourist parks/attractions. NB: There is a 20tonne load limit on the low level bridge.
Once the intersection complete, it will allow for vehicles to turn in a controlled, safer environment.
These works are fully funded from the Fatigue Management Program which is a component of the Australian Government’s Nation Building Program, focusing on improving national and inter-regional land transport corridors to enhance national and regional growth.
Location
Stuart Highway/Zimin Drive, Katherine.
Works include
- Extension of the north and southbound acceleration/deceleration lanes.
- Lengthening of the turning lane and addition of a median strip.
- New street lighting and connection to the bike path.
Disruptions
During construction there will be lane closures and speed restrictions in place.
Road users are asked to observe all traffic control devices and speed limits.
Commencement of works
Works have commenced with completion expected mid-April 2013 (weather permitting).

Works will commence Wednesday 17 October on the upgrade of the intersection.
Once the intersection complete, it will allow for vehicles to turn in a more controlled and safer manner.
