Palmerston Sporting Facilities

Palmerston’s sporting community will soon be training and competing in first class facilities with a $33M project, delivering new facilities and upgrades across five sports.
The Tennis, Netball, AFL, and Football facilities will all receive valuable upgrades and a new Rugby League facility will be built. The project will create a valuable sporting hub for the Palmerston community.
All four facilities are expected to be complete by early 2012, with some minor landscaping/turfing work to continue beyond that.
The project demonstrates the Territory Government’s commitment to rolling out critical social infrastructure and will provide first class facilities to harness more of the Territory’s young talent.
Location
All facilities are located in Palmerston, 25km South of Darwin.
The netball and tennis facilities are in Moulden, the AFL facilities are located at Charles Darwin University, The Rugby league is located in Rosebery and Gray is home to the football facility.
Benefits
The upgrades include a new tennis and netball complex that will feature devoted tennis courts and new dedicated netball courts, as well as clubrooms, canteen, administration and amenities.
The Palmerston Magpies AFL facilities will get a complete overhaul, including match quality lights, resurfacing and draining upgrades for the oval, bleachers, grandstand seating, clubrooms, coaches’ box, storage shed and scoreboard.
The Palmerston Raiders Rugby League side will receive a brand new facility that will comprise of two pitches, clubrooms, lighting and amenities.
Football’s Sporting Field will receive a major upgrade with new senior and junior pitches, grandstands and lighting.
Commencement of works
All four facilities are expected to be complete by early to mid 2012, with some minor landscaping/turfing work to continue beyond that.
