Jenkins Road

The Department of Construction and Infrastructure on behalf of the Department of Lands and Planning is upgrading Jenkins Road and the intersections at Stuart Highway/Arnhem Highway and Stuart Highway/Jenkins Road.
Jenkins Road will be an important access route to the homes of up to 50,000 Territorians in Weddell, as well as supporting future developments at Middle Arm.
Current status
Construction is well underway on a major upgrade to Jenkins Road to provide better access to the new city of Weddell and future oil and gas developments at Middle Arm.
The two staged project will seal 14 kilometres of Jenkins Road from Stuart Highway to Finn Road, and Finn Road to Channel Island Road.
Location
Jenkins Road is located 35kms from Darwin, just before Noonamah. Intersection works will take place at the intersection of Stuart Highway/Arnhem Highway and Stuart Highway/Jenkins Road.
Benefits
Stage One includes:
- Construction of a bridge at Bennett Creek
- Culvert crossing at Bees Creek
- Upgrading of flood ways
- Sealing of Jenkins Road to Finn Road
The contract to deliver Stage Two was awarded to local company East Arm Civil Pty Ltd and is supporting more than 50 local jobs – including 9 Indigenous employees.
Stage Two includes:
- Sealing of Jenkins Road from Finn Road to Channel Island Road
- Improvement of Jenkins Road/ Channel Island Road intersection including the installation of street lighting
- Water main diversion and relocation of power poles
- Construction of culverts
Once completed, the works will deliver a high grade road to the community for the future.
Timeframe
The Jenkins Road upgrade is on track to be completed at the end April 2012 (weather permitting).
