Royal Darwin Hospital Emgergency Department Upgrades
Overview
Department of Construction and Infrastructure is project managing the construction works for the upgrade of the Emergency Department (ED) at Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) on behalf of the Department of Health (DoH).
The project is federally funded through a National Partnership Agreement with Department of Health & Aging (DoHA).
The Northern Territory Government on behalf of the Department of Health proposes to modify the current Royal Darwin Hospital Emergency Department and Main Foyer to provide:
New Fast Track Area and Fast Track Waiting Room within existing building to include;
- A new Fast-Track Area to ensure patients who do not require admission to hospital are assessed and treated as quickly as possible.
- 2 additional Paediatric beds in Emergency Department.
- 3 new Clinical Initiatives Nursing beds which will improve time to started investigations and management.
- Redevelopment of Triage and Reception Area to providing improved work flow and access to staff.
- Relocation of Pathology and Patient Discharge Lounge.
- Stage 1: Upgrade to ED Reception and triage, creation of new Pathology and Discharge Lounge and storage rooms.
- Stage 2: The bulk of the works will follow the initial stage 1 of partitioning works, with the new clinical areas to be completed as stage 2.
- The upgrades will take pressure off the Emergency Department, one of the busiest in the nation by providing right-sized department for number of patients.
- The upgrades have been designed to improve the quality of treatment while assisting to reduce waiting times.
- Week commencing Monday 19 September, 2011.
- Target for completion is the end of December, 2011.
