Freedom of Information

The Information Act combines Freedom of Information (FOI), Privacy, the appointment of a Commissioner, and Records Management into one piece of legislation.

Freedom of Information gives individuals the right to apply to correct personal information held by a public sector organisation and the right to apply for government information.

Privacy controls how government collects, manages, uses and discloses personal information as prescribed in the Information Privacy Principles.

Records Management is the framework for the making and keeping of records by public sector organisations.
