Construction
The Construction Division is a Government Business Division of the Department of Planning and Infrastructure and the leading Northern Territory Government provider of infrastructure planning, construction and maintenance. It also plays a lead role in disaster management.
The division provides a service delivering capital works, minor new works and repairs and maintenance for a range of Northern Territory Government clients including:
- Department of Employment, Education and Training
- Territory Housing
- Department of Health and Family Services
- NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services
- Natural Resources, Environment and the Arts
Work is carried out across the Northern Territory by private contractors and the division has offices in all major regional centres where staff manage this process.
Approximately 300 staff comprise the Construction Division in a diverse range of professional, technical and administrative positions. The Government Business Division operates on a fee for service basis and manages the projects from design stage, through construction and supervising the maintenance of the completed product.
In the 2009/10 financial year, some of our key priorities include:
- Continuing work on Stage 2 of the Tiger Brennan Drive Extension.
- Completing work on the Alan Walker Cancer Care Centre at Royal Darwin Hospital.
- Constructing a new Police Station in Alice Springs.
- Delivery of the Building the Education Revolution schools program.
- Completing work on four new bridges along the Victoria Highway.
- Completing repairs and maintenance on roads Territory-wide.
