Building Code Requirements

Building Code of Australia Minimum Energy Performance Requirements

Minimum Energy Performance Requirements (MEPRs) have been and are being introduced into the Building Code of Australia. Currently the timetable for introduction of MEPRs is:

  • January 2003 MEPRs introduced into Volume 2 (Class One Housing Provisions)
  • 2005 Introduction of MEPRs for Class 2,3 and 4 buildings (NT not adopted yet)
  • 2006 Introduction of MEPRs for commercial and public buildings (NT adoption in 2006 not decided yet)
  • 2006 Introduction of 5 star minimum energy performance rating for housing under consideration (NT adoption in 2006 not decided yet)

NT decisions on adoption are awaiting detailed analysis of the appropriateness of the proposed changes for NT climate conditions and building types.
