Some sites also establish teams of workplace "Energy Champions" (like Occupational Health & Safety representatives and first aiders), who help raise employee awareness and keep a look out for energy saving opportunities in their area.

The organisation's Energy Management Committee may:

  • Consist of the Agency Energy Manager, the Energy Coordinator, Facilities Energy Managers and any others invited to join the group
  • Recommend to the CEO/Directors targets for energy savings and monitor and report on progress towards these targets
  • Examine options for best energy management practices and recommend those to be implemented in existing and new departmental facilities
  • Promote energy saving behaviours to all staff
  • Ensure adequate energy management training provided to Energy Managers
  • Seek suggestions from staff on how to improve energy use efficiencies
  • Develop, monitor, and oversee implementation of an ongoing agency Energy Management Program Implementation Plan and facilities' Energy Action Plans
  • Report regularly to the CEO/Directors/staff on the agency’s energy management program
  • Review annually the agency’s energy management performance against recognised benchmarks.

The organisation Energy Manager, with the assistance of the Energy Coordinator, may:

  • Chair the agency Energy Management Committee and be responsible for it fulfilling its Terms of Reference.
  • Be the first point of contact between the agency and external advisers.
  • Prepare and present quarterly energy reports to Management Board.

Divisional/Facility Energy Managers

  • Wherever possible be members of the agency Energy Management Committee.
  • Liaise/consult with staff in their division/facility.
  • Promote energy saving behaviours to all building occupants.
  • Oversee the development, implementation of, and reporting on Energy Action Plans for their area of the department.
  • Be responsible for energy bill payments and monitor and report quarterly on energy use within their area.
