Energy consumption of office equipment

Photocopiers | Printers | Computers

BSS conducts ongoing research into the power consumption of equipment. This information will be updated as work progresses.

An easy-to-use power meter is available should you wish to investigate the power consumption of equipment in your work area.

Contact us for more information and please send us the results of your research. We will add your data to that  listed below and this information will be used to review our office equipment strategy.

Photocopiers

The extent of power use whilst an item of office equipment is in sleep mode varies with different models and even between different units of the same model.

For example, one of the two Konica 3340 copiers described below consumes more than the other when timed "off" using the in-built timer.

Note also that the automatic "Power Saver" modes in most models appear to have little effect on the consumption of the copiers.

Printers

The extent of power use whilst an item of office equipment is in sleep mode varies with different models. In most cases, we have found that very little power is saved by "Power Saving" modes!

Computers

The extent of power use whilst an item of office equipment is in sleep mode varies with different models. It is always worth activating Energy Star sleep modes on computers — but don't forget to turn them off properly when they are no longer needed.
