Cool Mob - Cool Community Organisation in the Northern Territory

Cool Mob is a community based program designed to help Darwin and Palmerston households reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The program is part of the national Cool Communities Program.

Cool Communities program in Alice Springs

The Cool Communities program in Alice Springs is run by the Arid Lands Environment Centre and supported by Desert Knowledge Australia. The program comprises a virtual community of 200 Alice Springs households linked via email.

ecospecifier

Ecospecifier's aim is to help building professionals including architects, designers, builders and specifiers, as well as keen homeowners, to shortcut the eco and healthy materials sourcing process.

Its broader aim is to help create a more sustainable physical environment by increasing the use of environmentally preferable and healthy products, materials and design processes.

NABERS (the National Australian Built Environment Rating System)

NABERS is a performance-based rating system for existing buildings and rates a building on the basis of its measured operational impacts on the environment.

The systems is designed to provide a simple indication of how well environmental impacts are managed which gives building owners, managers or occupants the opportunity to reduce these environmental impacts.  NABERS incorporates the Australian Building Greenhouse Rating (ABGR) Scheme to assess the energy and greenhouse efficiency of buildings and the NABERS office water scheme is used to assess water usage.  A full range of measured operational impacts including assessing waste and indoor air quality are being developed to add to the environmental impacts considered.

Green Building Council of Australia

Launched in 2002, the Green Building Council's mission is to develop a sustainable property industry for Australia and drive the adoption of green building practices through market-based solutions.

The Department of Environment and Climate Change (NSW)

The New South Wales Department of Environment and Climate Change works on greenhouse and climate chagne issues and manages sustainability programs. The DECC website contains information on environmental education, energy efficiency and water conservation progams and renewable energy policy.

Sustainablity Victoria

Sustainablity Victoria purpose is to show the way to using resources more efficiently and reducing everday environmental impacts. Sustainability Victoria work across all industry sectors, as well as with schools, State and local governments, community groups and individuals to promote and encourage environmental sustainability.

The Energy Division provides policy advice on energy issues, energy program delivery and regulatory services for the competitive, sustainable, safe and reliable supply and use of energy, for the benefit of the South Australian community.

The Department of Climate Change, incorporating the former Australian Greenhouse Office (AGO), provides a whole of government approach to greenhouse matters.

Energy Star Australian Home Page

In Australia, Commonwealth, State and Territory Government Agencies are cooperating through the National ENERGY STAR Program to encourage the use of energy-effecient equipment at home and in business. This site provides information on the ENERGY STAR function, how to activate ENERGY STAR on your computer, and purchasing home and office equipment with the ENERGY STAR function.

Energy Efficiency Best Practice Program

Run by the Commonwealth Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources, this program works with Australian industry to increase energy efficiency and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. The program was funded from 1998 to 30 June 2003 and lead to real savings in a range of industries including diaries, beverage and packaging, paper, wineries and motoring.

Energy Information Administration (EIA)
