About us
The Department
The Northern Territory Department of Construction and Infrastructure was formed on 4 December 2009. The department plays a lead role in planning, constructing and maintaining government infrastructure across the Territory.
The department is also responsible for construction of all social and Government Employee Housing on an agency basis to the Department of Housing, Local Government and Regional Services.
With regards to infrastructure development, the department provides strategic advice and policy on a whole-of-government basis for infrastructure planning, building sustainability issues, energy management and capital works project definition, to ensure built assets are fit for purpose and consider life cycle costs.
Within the department, the Construction Division provides project management services for the design, procurement and supervision of the NT Government’s infrastructure program and works closely with clients from across government. In 2008/09, the division (then part of the former Department of Planning and Infrastructure) delivered a record program made up of capital works, minor new works and repairs and maintenance projects and valued at over $500 Million. The program for the 2009/10 year is valued at over $1 Billion.
