Health Careers & Opportunities in the Northern Territory

Currently there are vacancies for experienced remote health nurses and remote health centre managers in the Northern Territory. Exciting opportunities exist for experienced Registered Nurses and/or Midwives with a focus and commitment to Primary Health Care while working in either Top End or Central Australia in the diverse and challenging field of Remote Area Nursing. We are seeking motivated, professional nurses from a variety of backgrounds to join some of our 54 community based health centre teams. This is a new and exciting era in remote health and we are committed to ensuring our staff work in a highly supportive environment where ongoing education is highly valued.

The NT Government is committed to the abolishment of single nurse posts and is in the process of increasing the staffing in these communities. There are only a small number of remote communities that only have a single nurse. Other staff that work in these health centres include Registered Aboriginal Health Workers, Aboriginal Community Workers, Administration staff, drivers, cleaners and gardeners. Medical support may be provided by someone locally or via a visiting service. Public Health Coordinators, visiting program areas such as maternal and child health, hearing, nutrition, sexual health, visiting specialists, allied health and CQI facilitators all provide additional support to the delivery of primary health services.
