Re-enter the Workforce
If you have had a break in practice of more than five years you may need to complete a re-entry (supervised practice) program. The Department of Health and Familes (DHF) supports nurses seeking clinical placement to regain competencies required for full registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of the Northern Territory. Provisional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of the Northern Territory must be obtained prior to commencing the re-entry program.
For registration information contact Nursing and Midwifery Board of the Northern Territory directly:
DHF provides a supportive environment for those nurses wishing to re-enter the workforce or who have trained overseas and seek NT registration. The re-entry program is flexible and can be tailored to suit your individual needs with opportunities for ongoing employment. The scheme offers 75% of a base level EN or RN salary for the duration of the three month program and support from dedicated Clinical Nurse Educators.
New Support Programs
A new Australian Government initiative - Bringing Nurses back into the Workforce - is providing additional support for nurses to return to nursing. The program provides cash bonuses of up to $6,000 to eligible nurses/midwives who return to work in a participating public hospital.
