Royal Darwin Hospital Auxiliary
The members of the
Hospital's Auxiliary are a tireless band of workers who stage a number of events
each year to raise money for the hospital. A major event on their fund raising
calendar is the annual fashion parade, held at Government House.
Sick children have a Fresh Future thanks to Woolworths
Woolworths have become the major sponsor of the Maternal and Child Health
Division of Royal Darwin Hospital.
In the last three year's, Woolworths has raised more than $73,000 for sick
children at Royal Darwin Hospital. Prior to this, it was a major sponsor of
the Emergency Department fundraising more than $30,000. Woolworths
generosity has allowed Royal Darwin Hospital to purchase much-needed
equipment for both our General Paediatric and Isolation Paediatric wards
this has included sofa beds to allow parents to sleep in relative comfort
while they stay with their children.
The latest project funded Woolworths Fresh Future Children's Hospital
Appeal is a parents' room on Ward 5B. This area will allow parents to enjoy
some quiet time away from the general activity of the ward. It is expected
to open in July 2006.
HMAS Coonawarra adopts Special Care Nursery
HMAS Coonawarra has adopted Royal Darwin Hospital’s neonatal intensive care
unit as its official ship’s charity for 2006. The Special Care Nursery
cares for up to 60 premature and sick newborn babies each month.
HMAS Coonawarra Commanding Officer, Commander Stu Wheeler this week
presented a cheque for $1000 to RDH General Manager Robin Michael.
The ship’s company will be organising fundraising activities throughout the
year to support the vital work of the Special Care Nursery staff.
RDH General Manager Robin Michael was delighted by HMAS Coonawarra’s
decision to select the SCN as the ship’s official charity.
Bechtel give smallest patients a good start in life
Employees at Bechtel were generous donors to the Special Care Nursery in
2005. The workers and the company donated more than $31,000 to the nursery.
The donation was used to purchase an infant flow driver which assists babies
to breathe, a CO2 monitor to ensure that when a baby is intubated the tubes
are in the correct position and a mobile blood and gas monitor which can
also be used in the transport of very sick and premature babies when they
are flown south.
