The Northern Territory Department of Health and Community Services
initiated a process of community consultation in November 2004 to
assist in the development of a five year Rehabilitation Strategy
for hospital based multidisciplinary rehabilitation services across
the Northern Territory.
The Northern Territory Governments' Framework for Health and Community
Services, Building Healthier Communities, provides the strategic
direction for health and community services into the future. The
development of the draft Rehabilitation Strategy fits within this
framework and will provide the basis for planning future clinical
rehabilitation services requirements in an effective and sustainable
manner.
A Rehabilitation Clinical Reference Group of leading clinicians
with consumer representatives has been formed to provide specialist
input, advice and guidance to the development of rehabilitation
services, especially the Rehabilitation Strategy.
Community consultation workshops were held in November 2004 across
the Northern Territory in Darwin, Alice Springs, Katherine, Nhulunbuy
and Tennant Creek with broad stakeholder involvement. Consultations
were based on a Background Paper about the development of a draft
Rehabilitation Strategy written by the Rehabilitation Clinical Reference
Group.
The results of the community consultation workshop and other consultation
mechanisms will be incorporated in the development of the draft
Rehabilitation Strategy that will be circulated for comment in 2005.
Regular updates on the development of the Rehabilitation Strategy
and initiatives in the practice of rehabilitation will posted on
this website to ensure stakeholders are informed of progress.
If you have any queries regarding the project, the Background Paper,
