All restaurants, cafes and dining areas will be required to display signage consistent
with the regulations from 1 January 2003.
- All eating places will be
sent a standard No Smoking sign by 1 January.
- Businesses will have
the option of designing and producing their own No Smoking signs, providing they
comply with the regulations.
- Outdoor venues where seating is provided
will also have signs to distinguish smoking areas from nonsmoking areas.
- For
an occupier who breaches the No Smoking signage requirements, a $100 infringement
notice may result, or a fine of up to $11,000 if the offence is proven in court.
- In
places where smoking is allowed, the business may communicate the smoking area
in whatever way they consider appropriate.
