  • Staff rooms and other enclosed areas not accessible to the public are nonsmoking from 31 May 2003.

exceptions

  • Smoking may still be permitted in private rooms depending on the policy of the venue. In places such as nursing homes, policies should be put in place to protect staff. For example, smoking in private rooms should not be permitted whilst staff are present.
  • Verandahs and outdoor areas such as courtyards may still allow smoking depending on the policy of the venue.
  • Guest accommodation venues do not need to designate a certain percentage of private rooms as nonsmoking.
