| The Northern
Territory Disability Advisory Council provides advice to Family and Community
Services Minister Delia Lawrie on the policy, planning and delivery of disability
services in the Northern Territory.
The Disability Advisory Council has
an Independent Chair, as well as 15 representatives who are appointed by the Minister
for a period of three years. The members represent a range of organisations from
urban, rural and remote communities, and include service provider and Indigenous
representation. The Disability Advisory Council is an important mechanism
for people with disabilities, their carers, service providers and other key stakeholders
to influence and advise on policy and practice change. The development of this
Council - along with the Family and Community Services Council - follows recommendations
made in the Bansemer Review, and is also in line with the NT Government's strategic
five year framework, Building Healthier Communities."
