Foster Care: you can do that!

Foster Care

Hello, and welcome to the Northern Territory Family and Children’s Services (FACS) Foster Care website!

Download factsheet: Why Do Children Need Foster Care?

For many reasons, some children are unable to live at home. Sometimes Family and Children’s Services becomes involved to meet the child’s needs for care and safety.

Foster carers are volunteers who play a highly valued and important role in our community, caring for children of all ages, backgrounds and family types unable to live at home.

Foster carers don’t need to be married, own their own home, have children or hold professional qualifications. Carers are everyday people, willing and able to open their own homes to provide children with safe, supportive and loving environments.

Reuniting a child with its birth parents or extended family can take time. Foster carers are an essential part of the caring team who work with FACS to support the child and meet their individual needs for the duration of time they are in care. Foster care can be both a challenging and rewarding experience. It can make a positive difference in a child’s life, and in a carer’s life too!

It's great that you're interested in finding out more about foster caring and we hope that the information on this site has answered most of your questions. If you would like further information please enter your details on the Contact us page and a FACS worker will be in touch with you.
