| Disease Control (CDC) provides
a range of services to monitor, control, prevent and in some instances eliminate
communicable and non communicable diseases throughout the Northern Territory (NT).
NT-wide programs, policies and strategies are developed via multisectoral
consultation and implemented by district CDCs in collaboration with all levels
of health care providers. Both professional and community education are critical
parts of successful program outcomes. Some clinical services are also provided,
especially where curative treatment is the best prevention (e.g. TB, STDs) and/or
expertise is limited (e.g. TB, leprosy, HIV medicine). Additionally CDC maintains
the capacity to respond quickly and expertly to disease outbreaks throughout the
NT.
