2016 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner Awards

“Recognising Dedication and Excellence”

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner (ATSIHP) Excellence Awards recognise and reward members of this important profession for their dedication and vital work that they do in their communities. ATSIHPs are essential health care professionals who have a unique role in providing primary health care, often in challenging circumstances and locations, while bridging the gap between Western medicine and traditional ways.

The Department of Health is the main sponsor along with United Voice who funds the New Practitioner Awards, as well as the Rotary Club of Darwin Sunrise and Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance NT who provide in kind support.

The nominations for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner Excellence Awards are open from 20 May to 24 June 2016.

There are four categories that are open for nominees:

  • Remote
  • Urban
  • Specialist
  • New Practitioner.

The overall winner from these categories will be named the “Legend” winner for 2015. Prize money and a certificate of achievement are presented to the Award recipients of each category in recognition of their achievement. The Legend is chosen from the category winners and awarded an additional prize of $3000, a certificate of achievement, a personal trophy and a perpetual trophy.
