East Arm Wharf - Stage 2
The announcement of the go ahead of the Adelaide
to Darwin railway project was the trigger for
the Port of Darwin to proceed with the $100 million
Stage 2 development at East Arm.
Stage 2 development plans included:-
Extension
of the Stage 1 general purpose berth by 110m to
provide a total of 600m of continuous berth face.
The berth is able to cater for Panamax Class vessels
and third generation container vessels.
Construction
of a 16m wide railway access causeway to link
the Adelaide to Darwin railway and national rail
network to an Intermodal Container facility.
200m
of wharf with priority access for container vessels,
common user berth facility with capacity for the
provision of 3 quay cranes able to handle third
generation container vessels.
Reclamation
of a nominal 4 hectares for an intermodal container
terminal with capacity to handle in excess of
250,000 TEU per year. The facility has provision
for two rail sidings and
mobile terminal operating equipment.
A
further extension of the berth by 154m to a total
length of 754m with the construction of a dedicated
bulk liquids berth and mooring dolphins. The berth
has a vessel design capacity of 80,000dwt.
