This site has information on grants and funding, including
the Youth Engagement Grants Program managed by the Office of Youth Affairs,
that is available to young Territorians and community groups.
The Youth Parliament program is an innovative concept that has been
running in the NT for over 10 years. The program is coordinated and resourced
by the YMCA of the Top End together with the Department of Legislative
Assembly. At the end of 2007, over 2100 young people had been involved
in the program.
Youth Parliament is a six day camp held at Kormilda College in Darwin
which includes two formal days of debate in Parliament, as well as training,
recreation and practise in parliament.
Teams of six to eight young people are invited from community groups and
school groups to nominate themselves. We encourage students in Grades
9 – 12 to participate in the program, however this is only a general
guide.

MyNT wants to hear from YOUth!
Multicultural Youth NT (MyNT) has got big plans for the youth of the
Top End with a sustainability grant from the Foundation for Young Australians.
MyNT (formerly Multicultural Youth Council of the NT – MYCNT), is
all about giving youth from all backgrounds the chance to integrate and
interact socially, share ideas, and have a voice in addressing issues
that affect them. Since coming into existence in April 2007, we have held
events like the Youth Fiesta 2007, the Close the Gap Day campaign, ERACISM
youth forum, and the recent ‘What Ya Sayin’ Workshop for youth
week 08. In recognition for advancement of multiculturalism among youth
through such activities, MyNT was awarded the Charles See Kee Award 2008
by the Minister for Multicultural Affairs, the Honourable Mathew Bonson
MLA.
MyNT is one of two youth organisations from around Australia to be chosen
to receive a major sustainability grant from the Foundation for Young
Australians. Over the next two months, the MyNT steering committee will
be researching and consulting with youth on how they want MyNT to look
like, and what activities they want us to run.
MyNT invites ALL youth (12 – 25 years) to a consultation workshop
on Sunday the 13th of July from 11:30 am till 4:30 pm at the Multicultural
Council of the NT, Shop 15, Malak Shopping Centre, Malak Place, Malak.
Lunch will be provided and day will be full of games, and activities,
enabling youth to share their opinions in a fun, informal and social setting.
Other youth groups and organisations are strongly urged to send representatives
to the forum. It is also a terrific opportunity for passionate and fun
loving youth to get to know each other and build networks. Please let
us know you’re coming at project.officer@mcnt.org.au by Sunday the
6th of July. Contact Kevin on 0415590703 for more info.
All YOUth of the NT… come help make MyNT – YOUR NT!!

how to look after money or avoid being ripped off by a financial scam!
The competition is now open for students in Years 7-9 and 10-12 and has
a closing date of 26 September 2008. There are prizes for urban, remote
and very remote schools.
Five lucky NT lucky students have the chance to win $1,000 for their

“Your Music Sux…but you’re OK"
i s a show the whole Territory will have a say in. The written,
drawn and recorded input of young people aged 13-17 is currently being
sought. This play will explore the conflicts of musical taste separating,
identifying and ultimately unifying a classroom of high school teenagers.
Favorite song lyrics quoted by teenagers throughout the Territory will

will represent the different musical tastes of those who participate in

theatrical creation, jot down any thoughts and ideas and email the project
