Create communities where young people can feel safe and secureJust like other members of the community, feeling safe is important to young people. Of particular importance to young people is feeling and being safe in public places, at night and on public transport. Young people want to be able to go out with friends and enjoy their emerging independence without the fear of being harassed or subjected to violence. However, feeling safe and secure is more than not being afraid of being harassed or being subjected to violence. It’s also about understanding your rights and responsibilities under the law and as a consumer. Click here to find out more about the programs and services that are available to help create a safer and more secure community. Safe accommodation is also important. There are some young people who
for a number of reasons are unable to live at home. The Government has
a number of programs, and is working with community organisations, to
help these young people to access housing that is affordable and meets
their needs. Click here to find out more about
these programs and services.
