Youth Engagement Grants ProgramDo you need some funding for an innovative event, program or project that engages young Territorians aged 12 to 25 years? If so, the Office of Youth Affairs may be able help make your idea happen! The Office of Youth Affairs manages the Youth Engagement Grants Program. The program engages young Territorians through a variety of drug and alcohol free entertainment and youth development and leadership programs. Grants of up to $2,000 are available. Quick response funding of $500 may also be considered for out of round applications. All grants must be fully acquitted and evaluated. This is an important part of the grants program as it ensures that Government funds are spent appropriately. It also enables the Office of Youth Affairs to measure the effectiveness of the program. National Youth Week 2009 GrantsGrants fund youth engagement activities held in National Youth Week (NYW) and the establishment of Regional Coordination Committees. NYW is a national initiative that is held in April each year. The theme for NYW is to celebrate and recognise the value of all young Australians to their communities. Activities for NYW should aim to reflect this theme and encourage the participation of all young Territorians in this annual event. Open 27 October 2008 - Close 28 November 2008 Youth Vibe Holiday GrantsGrants fund youth engagement activities held in June/July and December/January. These grants provide opportunities for young people to have fun and develop new skills during the major school holidays in the Territory. June/July 2008 Round December 2008/January 2009 Round Grant CategoriesThere are two grant categories that your event may come under. Short descriptions of each category as well as examples of innovative activities follow: Drug and alcohol free entertainment. The aim of this category is to promote healthy choices among young people and to encourage young people to have fun in a safe and supportive environment. Examples of activities under this category include dance parties, sporting competitions, youth festivals, drama performances and concerts. Youth development and leadership programs . The aim of this category is to provide some form of development in areas such as self esteem, team building, career, leadership, communication and public speaking. Examples of activities under this category include writing workshops, creative art workshops and leadership development workshops. Types of GrantsThere are two types of grants available under each grant category. Mini grant is for funding up to $500. Young people can directly receive a mini grant. Major grant is for funding from $501 to $2,000. Community groups or young people applying for a major grant must be incorporated or sponsored by an incorporated body.
