Health Programs for Young Territorians

Health Promoting Youth Project

Through the Community Education Team in the Department of Health and Community Services a community education position has been established to develop and implement strategies to reduce alcohol consumption and alcohol related harm amongst young people aged 12 – 25 years across the NT. The community educator works collaboratively with young people and develops community education projects, such as the Choose Yourself campaign and the Parents’ campaign, and administers the Health Promoting Youth project.

Through this project grants of up to $500 are available to young people, organisations and groups for community awareness initiatives and activities.

For more information on the Health Promoting Youth Project click here.

Tobacco Action Project (TAP)

This project was established to reduce the impact of smoking on the health of all Territorians and, in particular, to reduce:

  • the prevalence of smoking among Territorians;
  • the numbers of people who have ever smoked; and
  • exposure to passive smoking.

The program has two major target groups – young people and Aboriginal people. For more information on TAP click here.
