Purpose of Scheme

Under the Trade Support Scheme (TSS), companies and business entities may apply for financial assistance to offset the direct costs of marketing specific international trade projects.

The financial assistance is offered as a taxable cash reimbursement on approved marketing expenditure and is generally applied on a dollar-for-dollar basis. The TSS has been set up to best assist company cash flow and working capital challenges.

Your international trade project will need to deliver identified trade results. A successful application will meet these three key criteria:

  • The direct relevance of the proposed trade project to the NT Government ‘s Trade Objectives
  • The likelihood of success of the project within a realistic timeframe; and
  • Other trade and economic benefits that may flow through to the Territory from successful completion of the project.

The scheme is intended to introduce new firms to exporting and encourage existing firms to consider exporting their goods and services. The TSS is primarily designed for small firms and is intended to be the first step toward utilising the larger national Export Market Development Grant (EMDG) Scheme.

The TSS was developed by the Northern Territory Government to give Territory exporters and traders financial assistance in developing new international trade partnerships. The scheme replaces the former Export Marketing Assistance Scheme (EMAS) and is just one of a wide range of export and trade advisory services offered by the Government.
