The Tribunal is an independent statutory body which undertakes Inquiries into the remuneration and entitlements of key Northern Territory office holders. The Tribunal’s reports and determinations are tabled in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly.
The Tribunal is established by the Northern Territory Assembly Members and Statutory Officers (Remuneration and Other Entitlements) Act.

Note the Tribunal does not have a role in setting the basic salary of Members of the Legislative Assembly. This is set by legislation as being “an annual rate equal to so much of the annual rate of the salary for a member of the House of Representatives as reduced by $3,000” - see section 3 of the Assembly Members and Statutory Officers (Remuneration and Other Entitlements) Act.

* Parts of Determination No. 1 of 2005 (Magistrates) was disallowed by the Legislative Assembly on 13 October 2005. The effect of the disallowance action is that the daily rate of travelling allowance for Brisbane and Perth continues at $360, not $325 as determined, and the rate for lunch in places other than a Capital City in Table 3 continues at $25, not $19 as determined.
