Overarching Agreement on Indigenous Affairs between The Commonwealth of Australia and The Northern Territory of Australia

The Northern Territory Government and the Australian Government are committed to achieving better outcomes for Indigenous people in the Northern Territory.

To this end, both governments have undertaken to work together and in partnership with Indigenous people and communities to address entrenched levels of disadvantage among Indigenous people in the Northern Territory.

The strategies available on this website are the first of many new initiatives which are designed to deliver the long-promised improvements in this critical area of need.

Enhanced mental and physical health, and in particular primary health and early educational outcomes are among our first priorities.

Along the way, we also hope to find ways of creating safer communities, and ways of developing community capacity to ensure communities are functional.

Ultimately, the regional, housing and arts strategies available here are an important step in improving the lives and futures of all Territorians.

The strategy documents are available below:

In December 2006, an Overarching Agreement on Indigenous Affairs Status Report was prepared. This report outlines achievements, challenges and next steps. Click on the link below to read the Executive Summary of the report.
