Computers for the Community has been developed to assist community organisations and to support publicly spirited activities in the Northern Territory through the donation of surplus, working computing equipment.
The Government acknowledges the value and benefit of the work performed by a wide range of people within the Northern Territory community and that these contributions may be enhanced by providing groups and individuals with access to technology through the re-distribution of ex-government computers to the community.
This project has been developed by the Department of Corporate and Information Services and Fujitsu Australia. The donated desktop computers are 3 or more years old and have been used by NT Government agencies. The computers have been "refurbished" and have been installed with Windows XP operating system and a range of free and open source software. A 17 inch LCD monitor is included.
