The NT Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Industry Development Group has launched its Information and Communications Technology Industry’s Priority Action Project.
It is anticipated that major projects, such as Inpex, will generate $1.8 billion over the next 10 years for ICT goods and services in the Northern Territory.
The NT ICT Industry’s Priority Action Project aims to maximise local ICT companies’ share of this.
Minister for Business, the Hon Dr Chris Burns formally launched the project and praised the initiative of the local ICT industry in appointing Robert Chirgwin as the project director to guide the industry into the future.
Project Director, Robert Chirgwin said that the local ICT industry can be proud of its achievements to date.
“It needs to take action now to identify and attract new business opportunities. Local industry must show it has the capacity to deliver the required goods and services,” he said.
The ICT industry is benefiting from a strong Northern Territory economy and is well-positioned to have continued growth with increased local employment.
“I will be looking to promote the local ICT industry and meeting with representatives of major projects to push the case for using local ICT companies,” Mr Chirgwin said.
An ICT industry portal is being developed to improve communications within the industry. The portal will make it simpler for companies to find out about new business opportunities and for potential clients to find local ICT suppliers.
The ICT industry in the Northern Territory offers great career opportunities, an opportunity for life-long learning, and the opportunity to become a professional within the global economy.
