Vacation Employment for University Students

The Vacation Employment Program provides students currently undertaking full-time degree studies with the opportunity to gain valuable workplace experience in the Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS). Employment is often available during the major University vacation periods.

Whilst preference is given to Northern Territory Government Higher Education Scholarship holders, the number of positions are limited and there is considerable competition for available placements. Accordingly, not all Scholarship holders are guaranteed a position.

The Vacation Employment Program provides paid short-term work placements within NTPS agencies, starting at the AO1 level. The positions range from administrative to fieldwork, with the opportunity to develop a range of skills that may include word processing, spreadsheet creation and maintenance, communications, research, working with legislation and even coordination.
