NTG Fleet Services

NT Fleet is responsible for the management of the light and heavy vehicle fleet for the various arms of the NT Government, with the exception of Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services.

NT Fleet is responsible for the management, purchase, disposal and maintenance of the fleet. Vehicles are leased to government agencies at commercial rates with a key focus on low cost, fit for purpose vehicles.

Apart from the provision of vehicles to government agencies, NT Fleet does not compete with the private sector and maintenance and disposal services are provided directly by the private sector.

NT Fleet has offices in Alice Springs and Darwin. All other towns and remote communities’ arrangements are serviced by these two offices.

NT Government vehicles

All surplus NT Government vehicles are sold at fortnightly public auctions. These auctions are conducted in Darwin (Winnellie) and Alice Springs at the Pickles Auctions facilities, selling the vehicles physically located in both Darwin and Alice Springs. Buyers can bid in person at either branch location facility or participate over the internet from anywhere in Australia. Covered footwear must be worn when attending any auction.

If vehicles are not sold at auction they are available on the Pickles Auction fixed price/online sale through their website.

Community Benefit Fund

The NT Government established the Community Benefit Fund (CBF) in 2006 to provide funding to community groups. The CBF provides money from the CBF Levy defined under the Gaming Control Act on Electronic Gaming Machines revenue received by licensed hotels and clubs to community organisations which provide facilities or services to the community at large.

Incorporated in CBF is vehicle gifting and loan programs which are sourced out of the NT Government’s light vehicle fleet. Vehicles available for gifting, long term and short term loans are used vehicles scheduled for disposal.

Two separate rounds each year will be advertised in local newspapers by the Department of Attorney-General and Justice for gifted and long term loaned (more than four weeks) vehicles. Each round will close on 31 August and 1 March of each year.
