What is a training package?

Training packages are sets of nationally endorsed competency standards for assessment guidelines and Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualifications for a specific industry, industry sector or enterprise.

Training packages are developed by industry through national Skill Councils or enterprises who require specific qualifications and training.

All training packages contain three components:

  • National Competency Standards
  • National Assessment Guidelines
  • National Qualifications.

Implementation guides

Implementation guides are designed to assist registered training organisations (RTOs) to deliver training packages. Each guide outlines:

  • the relationship between the courses and qualifications
  • the relationship between existing modules and the new units
  • advice to RTOs about the qualifications they are authorised to issue (Scope of Registration)
  • identification of regulations or required licences
  • nominal duration of units and qualifications
  • sample training programs
  • identification of current and new resources that can be used to deliver the training
  • identification of Approved Training Schemes for apprenticeships.

The Northern Territory follows the Victorian implementation guides for the following:

  • nominal hours for each qualification
  • nominal hours for Units of Competency
  • nominal duration for Apprenticeships.
