The Department of Business and Employment works with targeted industry sectors to grow the Northern Territory’s economic base and identify new opportunities.

A priority focus is working with industry leaders to prepare local businesses for the major projects planned in the Northern Territory, in particular the rapidly-developing oil and gas industry.

Attracting investment in the Northern Territory is another key activity of the department.

With the Australian Defence Force increasing its resources in the Territory, the department is working to grow local business capacity to provide support and maintenance services to Defence.

The department is also working with industry and local communities to develop business opportunities in the Territory Growth Towns.

Knowledge and Innovation have been identified as priority growth areas under the Territory 2030 plan, and the department works closely with the research and development sector to identify new opportunities for commercialisation.
