The Australian Government has responsibility for employment services and workplace relations. The Australian Government Workplace portal provides a comprehensive array of information on employment and related services.

The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations funds the following services:

The Australian Government Workplace Portal provides access to employment services that include volunteer work, career planning, wage management, funding programs, and assistance to people looking for jobs or returning to work. The Portal also provides access to information on employment and workplace relations. It covers finding work, finding staff, wages and conditions, labour market opportunities and statistics, employment associations, careers and training, and services for indigenous people.

Along with general advice for job seekers and employers, the portal has information about services for specific groups.

  • Training Advisory Councils (DET Website) - There are a total of six Training Advisory Councils in the Northern Territory to advise on careers and training in all industries, for example, from mining to food preparation, animal care, retail and hospitality. This list is maintained by DET.
  • Job Network - A national network of private and community organisations dedicated to finding jobs for unemployed people, particularly the long term unemployed.
  • Myfuture - Myfuture is Australia's online career information service with a wealth of useful information on careers, courses, training providers, financial advice, support services, industries, labour market information, awards, scholarships and much more.

Australian Apprenticeships Access Programme

The Australian Apprenticeships Access Programme (AAAP) provides job seekers who experience barriers to skilled employment, with pre-vocational training, support and assistance to obtain and maintain a New Apprenticeship. The program is funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR).

Alternatively, a job seeker may be supported into employment, further education or training.
