Procurement Liaison aims to assist local business to achieve a greater understanding of Northern Territory Government (NTG) procurement procedures and requirements, and improve their capability to win government tenders.

This includes:

  • Actively visiting industry associations and individual businesses to discuss procurement processes and any concerns they may have about those processes.
  • Assisting businesses with the procurement process and working with government agencies to respond quickly to any queries businesses may have about procurement.
  • Monitoring and dealing with procurement complaints and issues, and providing feedback to government, business and NTG agencies. This process can include arranging for the dispute to be mediated.
  • Facilitating improvements in communication of procurement requirements to businesses.

The Procurement Liaison role places emphasis on facilitating improved relations between the business and the agency undertaking the procurement.

Resolution of a complaint lodged with Procurement Liaison does not necessarily mean the issue is determined in favour of either party. More often, the result is an improved understanding between the agency and the supplier.

Procurement Liaison neutrality has been demonstrated by referral of matters for independent arbitration, as provided for by the revised Procurement Directions. In these cases a review is usually conducted by a private sector consultant.

The Procurement Liaison role was established as part of the Buy Territory procurement package announced in May 2005.

Procurement Liaison is available on request to businesses across the Territory as issues arise, and quarterly visits are made to all major regional centres.
