The Department of Business and Employment provides support and access to a variety of business information for young people who are intending to start a business in the Northern Territory.

Getting Started Seminars

Are specifically targeted towards people wishing to start a business for the first time. The seminars cover basic skills for being in business and services of the department. Topics include:

  • business structures
  • market research
  • taxation
  • business planning
  • finance.

Free practical small business workshops

Are available to assist anyone in business or thinking about starting a business. Workshops are held throughout the year in Darwin, Palmerston, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Nhulunbuy and Alice Springs.

Business Consultations

The department provides free individual confidential consultations to any one looking at starting a business or are currently in business. The consultation can cover any area of business and is offered to the client on an ongoing basis.

Youth Business Awards

The awards provide an opportunity for students to gain an awareness of business practices and to demonstrate their capabilities in planning and/or operating a small business. Students can enter the annual awards to compete for themselves and their school. Read more about the Youth Business Awards.

School Visitation Program

Department staff provide presentations to Northern Territory high schools on a wide range of business topics and where further business information can be accessed.
