Celebrating the Defence Support Industry

Two hundred guests, dressed in their best, attended the Defence Connect Gala Dinner at the Darwin Convention Centre on November 5.

The night was a chance to recognise the achievements of local businesses who work to support defence.

One such business was Fingers Specialised Metal Fabrication, formerly known as Fingers Aluminium. Fingers Specialised Metal Fabrication received the Chief Minister’s Award for best overall contribution to the NT Defence Support industry.

Fingers Specialised Metal Fabrication is an aluminium, stainless steel, mild steel and copper nickel fabrication specialist based in East Arm. For the last 5 years Fingers Specialised Metal Fabrication has worked on repairing the hulls, superstructure and piping for the Navy’s Armidale Class Patrol Boats based at Larrakeyah.

‘It’s fantastic to get the recognition from your peers that you are doing a great job, it makes all the hard work worthwhile,’ said Mark Taylor, Manager of Fingers Specialised Metal Fabrication.

NT Welding took out the Emerging Defence Support Business Award, presented by the Minister for Defence Support Chris Burns.

A special merit award was also presented to Coach Charters as recognition for the high level of service they provide to Defence and defence support businesses.

The Defence Connect Gala Dinner is in its second year and is an annual event held by the Australian Industry and Defence Network Northern Territory.
